Communications Expert (m/f) – Sustainable Production Systems
in Full-Time
in Berlin
Fixed term to 31 December 2018

Start date: 1 November 2017 

Purpose of the Role 

The Sustainable Production Systems (SPS) team needs short-term support to boost the quality of communications relating to the breadth of theme activities. Additionally, the team needs support with communication and dissemination activities for a new project funded under the Horizon 2020 SPIRE framework in which SPS will be involved (SCALER Project). 
The communications requirements of the SPS Theme are coordinated by the Climate-KIC DACH Communication Manager (1 day / week) located in Berlin, supported by a comms colleague in London (1 day / week), and colleagues working for the theme and flagship programme provide a mix of support for communication activity. The requirements for the SCALER project are coordinated through the SPS Business Development Lead. 
The external communications expert will help the Sustainable Production Team to refine and produce exemplar external communications messages and collateral, with a focus on: 

1. SPS Thematic Activities 

  • Producing an upgraded standard set of PowerPoint presentation slides for the theme (for events, business development, partner search)
  • Creating content and refining the templates for theme and flagship webpages
  • Creating case studies for key projects
  • Clearly capturing and articulating the value added by Sustainable Production Systems 
activities and research results
  • Simplifying language and messages to ensure they are readily understandable to a wide 
audience, and can be easily used across theme and flagship activities
  • Setting up and delivering Social Media Campaigns and a newsletter
  • Manage/coordinate SPS related events and speaker placements

2. H2020 SPIRE – SCALER Project Activities 

  • Creating a detailed communication and dissemination strategy and action plan based on WP5 of SCALER proposal, including an event and publications management plan
  • Creating, managing and co-ordinating content for SCALER
: website, e-newsletter, social media channels, smart art or infographics to boost engagement and awareness for the project, reports on communication, dissemination & stakeholder activities, stakeholder map under guidance from project partners 

  • Create SCALER stakeholder engagement strategy

Person Specification

  • A good understanding of climate change, circular economy, sustainability and innovation issues, including experience of messaging in this communications space
  • Strong editorial skills
  • Experience in B2B and B2C communication, preferably in the manufacturing and 
production industry 

  • Experience in guiding agencies/external communication professionals 

  • Ability to translate complex material into easy to read promotional copy
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver high impact communications campaigns 

  • Proven ability to manage and prioritise a busy workload and meet competing stakeholder 
requirements 

  • Communications and PR strategy development experience 

  • Self-motivated and proactive 

  • Collaborative with excellent teamwork skills 

  • Cultural sensitivity and proven ability to thrive in a multi-cultural team
  • Relevant post-graduate degree or equivalent professional qualification preferred
