Community Development Manager

Impact Hub Brixton is one of over 100 globally connected, locally embedded Impact Hubs: spaces to connect, inspire and enable people with entrepreneurial ideas for a better world. Impact Hub Brixton opened in May 2014, and has a large focus on supporting community-led change. Located in trendy enterprise space Pop Brixton, many of its 170+ members are from the local Lambeth area.

Impact Hub Brixton is looking for an energetic, entrepreneurial, and super organised person to join our team as

Community Development Manager
£26,000 - £28,000 Full Time

Key aspects of the role will be:

  • Community programme delivery including our existing Open Project Night
  • Helping to set an amazing collaborative culture, brokering peer connections between our members
  • Delivering effective communications to underpin the above

Key responsibilities include:

Community programme delivery  

  • Oversee and help to facilitate, design and deliver community involvement programmes, such as our existing Open Project Nights, funded by Power to Change (P2C), and others going forward.
  • Coordinate teams of volunteers, freelancers and activists on the above.
  • Contribute to the Hubs’ understanding of local community issues.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of impactful programmes, partnerships, research, and/or consultancies that utilise the skills and resources of the collective community

Peer Connections

  • Connect members to new people, events and opportunities  both face to face and virtually: sharing stories, skills and contacts and brokering meaningful peer connections.
  • Contribute to providing tours and convening onboarding events for prospective members, making sure visitors and new members have the best possible induction and ongoing experience in the Impact Hub.
  • Benefit from and contribute to peer to peer networks to share best practice, for example meeting amazing practitioners from across the UK as part of the P2C peer network

Communications and Fundraising

  • Contribute to effective communications including updating web page and social media to engage Hub members and the local community about the Community Development work.  
  • Produce member case studies, stories and articles that demonstrate our mission, impact and values and amplify member success and impact
  • Contribute to horizon scanning, apply for contracts / grants, and work with General Manager (GM) & Directors to secure funds where relevant to service design & application
  • Pursue other business and community development opportunities as agreed with GM and Directors.

General team responsibilities including:

  • Contribute to day to operation of the space, such as answering phones, looking after visitors, preparing the space for events, answering emails, opening and closing the space dealing with immediate issues.
  • Compile information regarding partners, events, opportunities, fundraising and other areas of responsibility as needed for monitoring and reporting
  • Organise meetings, events, conversations and other means to engage with the community in positive solutions-focussed conversations about society
  • Support in developing collaborative strategies and plans for Impact Hub Brixton
  • Contribute to the ongoing monitoring and assessment of our impact through team meetings, reports, surveys and team days
  • Be available to the team and the member community for enquiries and support requests when needed
  • Explore new ways of working and communicating to improve wellbeing and teamwork
  • Other duties as agreed with Directors

Person Specification

  • Knowledge of the local Brixton and Lambeth community, its voluntary organisations, community businesses, entrepreneurs etc.
  • Exhibiting personal drive; energetic, entrepreneurial, a confident and persuasive communicator with an appetite for discovering new ways of working and collaborating.
  • Some experience of recruiting, managing or coordinating the work of teams of volunteers, freelancers etc.  
  • An understanding of the challenges and support needs of entrepreneurs especially when starting and running purpose driven ventures
  • Good time management, organisational skills with experience of monitoring work outputs and outcomes
  • Ability to use digital tech for communications, scheduling and collaboration such as Google Drive, Slack etc.
  • A team player, also comfortable with working on own initiative within an agreed framework.
  • Flexible to swap between tasks to support the wider team effort getting hands on when needed.
  • Working knowledge of WordPress is desirable
  • Previous experience of working on grant funded projects and / or fundraising within the voluntary sector is desirable.

You will be rewarded with a salary of £26,000 - £28,000 p.a. for a full time week. Perks also include:
