Participatory City Foundation started the Every One Every Day initiative in Barking and Dagenham from August 2017.

Working with an incredible group of partners, funders and trustees we are launching an ambitious idea > to make practical participation a key building block for improving the everyday life of residents throughout the borough.  

Over the next 5 years Participatory City will work with local residents and organisations to create a high level of new activity. Every One Every Day will work with 25,000+ people to grow a new network of 250 projects and 100 businesses.

Every One Every Day will combine the benefits of peer-to-peer co-production projects, with businesses and services - working together to improve the overall wellbeing of the neighbourhood, leaving no one behind.

Development Director

Details

Location: Barking and Dagenham, London based. Role will include working and travelling to all parts of the borough, around the UK and worldwide on a regular basis.

Salary: £45,000 - £53,000 per year.

Type: Contact from commencement to 31 July 2019 with expectation of extending until 31 July 2022.

Hours: 40 hours/week - will regularly involve some evening and weekend working.

Holiday entitlement: 30 days (plus bank holidays).

Pension: Workplace pension.

Reports to: Chief Executive. This role is part of the PC Strategy Group.

About this role

This is a challenging and exciting role where you will be involved in all aspects of the organisation’s work, from handling important governance to rolling up your sleeves and welcoming people to the HQ shops. You will need to be able to tackle anything which the organisation might need with a skill and good humour, seeking expert advice where necessary, working with PC staff to ensure the best possible outcomes for PC and residents.

You’ll play a key role in the Development Team, which together with the Chief Executive, will work across the whole project to deliver on the aims and objectives of Participatory City and the Board of Trustees. This team will be responsible for all aspects of the smooth setup and running of the organisation, ensuring that the overall aims and objectives of the PC Board and key stakeholders are met. You will drive excellence and innovation through the organisation.

Duties/Responsibilities of this role

  • Team building and line management.
  • Lead on all aspects of finance including budgeting, cost control and forecasts.
  • Work closely with Office Manager on all aspects of finance including payroll, reporting, banking and relationship with accountants.
  • Lead on recruitment for organisation-including job specification, interviewing, hiring, induction and training.
  • Lead on fundraising for PCF - working with global and national funders to secure additional funds and opportunities.
  • Develop new business and look for opportunities for further innovations and partnerships.
  • Coordinate and plan all new business activity across PCF, drawing on the expertise within the organisation. This is likely to include the creation of the Warehouse and Lab functions of PCF and other projects.
  • Work with the Programmes Director to develop and deliver the Cities Programme.
  • Lead and manage the external relationships (out of the Borough) for PCF.
  • Sharing responsibility for Governance structure as per the Business Plan including with funders, PCF Board/trustees, and other groups.
  • Management of legal obligations with Chief Executive as required by PCF Trustees including those as mandated by the Charity Commission. This will include creation of policies, procedures and controls as necessary.
  • Responsible for achieving outcomes and meeting targets of PCF
  • Assist Chief Executive with strategic resource management- including finance, people, and assets.

  • Action orientated- able to get things done to time and budget.
  • Excellent people skills- you thriving on working with a diverse group of people .
  • Excellent communication skills- written and verbal.

Knowledge & Experience

ESSENTIAL

  • Proven fundraising experience- able to secure funding packages of £100,000s plus (including benefit in kind).
  • Track record of achieving outcomes and meeting targets.
  • Proven ability to deliver governance and formal project development with a number of key stakeholders and funders.
  • Experience in project development and innovation.
  • Have developed policies, processes and procedures suitable for a new business, and to embed these within the business.
  • Management of legal obligations on behalf of the trustees/stakeholders.
  • Track record of being action orientated - able to get things done to time and budget.

DESIRABLE

  • Experience of co-production techniques.
  • Experience of working with diverse teams across multiple sites.
  • Knowledge of participation culture e.g. starting neighbourhood projects, in depth understanding of startups.
