95% of people in London buy bread everyday. Wouldn’t it be great if all these sales could somehow help the most vulnerable in society?
Breadwinners is a grass roots charity with a no-brainer model to make this a reality. We provide training and jobs for refugees across our London farmers market stalls. This gives our Breadwinners a safe and supportive place to work, where they can really build their confidence, learn new skills and get the experience they need to get a good job or set up a business so they can have a much deserved fresh start!
“We believe refugees have extraordinary potential as entrepreneurs, employees and members of local communities. We sell the best artisan organic bread to support them to build a fresh start, providing self employment, training, and business opportunities, to become an active part in the community”
About Breadwinners (watch video)
Breadwinners is an ambitious grassroots charity set up in April 2016. We provide Londoners with the best organic artisan bread while empowering refugees through, employment, work experience, entrepreneurship opportunities, training and mentoring.
Today, Breadwinners sell the highest quality organic artisan bread on farmers markets across London, employing refugees. We are the first stepping stone for unemployed refugees and young people seeking asylum into a safe and supportive working environment, where they can gain the skills, confidence and experience to move into long term work and improve their wellbeing.
- We have built relationships with high-quality bakeries, The Celtic Bakers, Gail’s and The Dusty Knuckle Bakery, who support our social cause and provide us with bread at the very cost of it, allowing us to have a cost advantage.
- We work in partnership and take referrals from TERN, Groundworks, Akwaaba, Freedom from Torture, Refugee Youth and The Refugee Council.
- We currently run 4 markets (Primrose Hill Mkt, Broadway Vegan Mkt, Victoria Park Mkt, Church St Mkt), and have funds to grow 4 more, providing the first UK job to a total of 16 Refugees and supporting 28 young people seeking asylum per year.
- We currently support 5 refugees, having their first work experience in the UK with Breadwinners. 3 people have already moved into full time work or become entrepreneurs after working for Breadwinners.
- We have trained and provided volunteering work experience to 7 young unaccompanied people seeking asylum on a small pilot for the new “Risers” programme.
- We have piloted and tested a bicycle delivery model in the past, and looking for new innovative business models to support refugees.
People love our bread, brand and our social mission.
