We are looking for a
Digital Communications Officer
This role will support the Digital Communications Manager to deliver our ambitious digital strategy, focusing on the acquisition and conversion of new audiences specifically to support our fundraising and campaigning work.

Main duties and responsibilities
Digital content development
- To develop, edit and update website content using Wordpress, ensuring that it is up to date, accessible, engaging and optimised for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
- To work with individuals from other teams and external suppliers to generate diverse, compelling digital content that engages and informs our target audiences, while building Refugee Action’s brand profile
- To be part of and work with the Comms Content Group to develop case studies for use in digital content
- To train and develop Refugee Action staff in the use of our content management and other relevant systems, including project management software
- To support the Digital Communications Manager in producing regular statistical and financial analysis on the effectiveness of the digital communications.
Day to day coordination of social media channels
- To coordinate Refugee Action’s social media accounts on a day to day basis, overseeing the social media schedule, writing content and monitoring trends to identify opportunities to further engage our audiences
- To steward and maintain Refugee Action’s social media communities
- To design, write and develop content for social media channels
- To train and develop staff and volunteers in the use of social media
- To use analytics tools for social media and feed into monthly reporting on results
Digital Marketing
- To support the Digital Communications Manager with the development and delivery of the digital acquisition strategy in order to recruit and convert new supporters across a range of channels
- To work with relevant teams to coordinate and set up the sending of supporter facing Refugee Action emails, using Engaging Networks, and in in order to maximise retention and donor conversion
- To support the Digital Communications Manager in reporting on email performance via Engaging Networks
- To monitor Refugee Action’s Google AdWords (Grants) account on monthly basis, ensuring campaigns are running effectively
- To research and identify opportunities for improving SEO on Refugee Action’s website
- To support the Digital Communications Manager in managing Refugee Action’s Google Analytics account
- To support the delivery of a robust new testing and tracking framework across all digital channels
Other tasks
- To manage the digital team inbox
- To support the Digital Communications Manager with other relevant tasks as required
Person specification
Experience may be paid or voluntary, full or part-time, in the UK or overseas. Candidates will be shortlisted on the following specifications:
- Strong writing, editing and proof-reading skills, with experience of using these within a fast paced environment and adapting content for difference audiences
- Experience of maintaining and nurturing social media communities and creating impactful digital content
- Knowledge of Facebook advertising, including the set-up, management and analysis of ad performance
- Experience of using Engaging Networks or similar system or proven ability to learn new systems quickly
- Thorough understanding of website optimisation with experience working with website content management systems
- Experience of using Google Adwords, and of using reporting and analytics tools, such as Google Analytics
- Understanding of the digital landscape, and emerging trends in web and social technology and digital fundraising
Desirable
- Those with lived experience as a refugee are encouraged to apply
In addition to the above, candidates will be interviewed on the following if they are short-listed. Candidates need not write about these points in the application form.
- A passion and motivation to raise awareness of and raise fund for refugees and people seeking asylum in the UK.
- Experience of training non-digital staff in using digital tools
- Understanding of cultural diversity and the ability to work with people from a range of different cultures.
- Ability to travel in the UK with occasional overnight stays away from home.
- Ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks and requests, and respond flexibly as urgency requires
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
