The German Red Cross (GRC) is part of a worldwide community assisting victims of conflicts and disasters and people affected by social or health related crises. The Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement provides vulnerable people with assistance without discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions and adheres to the seven Fundamental Principles of the Movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality. The German Red Cross assists in disaster response, rehabilitation and capacity building projects on appeals of their sister organisations within the Movement.
GRC is currently seeking an
Accountant
to support the German Red Cross Delegation’s financial department in Peru to ensure the provision of accounting-administrative and treasury support for the execution of humanitarian assistance projects in Peru and Ecuador.
The applicant must be an EU citizen or long-term resident in an EU Member State.
Duration: 6 Months (01 November 2019- 30 April 2020) [Starting date is flexible]
Location: Lima/Peru
Responsibilities and Tasks:
Under the general supervision of the GRC Finance Officer in Peru, he/she will provide support to:
- The booking of invoices and accounting movements in the GRC Funds Pro financial system (SAP)
- Cash control in soles-dollars
- Organization and control of payments, safeguarding compliance with payment deadlines
- Preparation of cheques, transfer letters and payment orders
- Organization of the financial files and the process of accounting copies (physical and digital)
- Follow-up of partners' account renderings
- Monitoring the delegates and internal staff expenses justifications for subsequent registration in the Funds Pro system
- Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled
- Analyse the administrative-financial procedures of the delegation, identifying problems or inconsistencies and suggest improvements.
- Keep physical copies
- Other duties as assigned or requested
Required Skills:
- Background in accounting or equivalent
- Experience working with accounting software products and MS Excel
- Experience and skill with financial reporting preparation and presentation as well as reconciliations
- Ability to develop context-adapted solutions.
- Effective verbal and written communication in Spanish and English
- Willingness to work in the office and occasionally in the field
- Attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with cross cultural team members is required.
- Ability and agreement to adhere to the Red Cross Red Crescent Fundamental Principles
