The Centre
The International Civil Society Centre helps the leading international civil society organisations (ICSOs) maximise their impact for a sustainable and more equitable world.
The Centre works with ICSOs such as Amnesty International, Greenpeace or Oxfam to successfully navigate change. We scan the horizon for opportunities and threats; enable learning and cooperation among ICSOs and their stakeholders; support ICSOs in developing effective leadership; and promote robust accountability to strengthen ICSOs’ legitimacy. The Centre is a not-for-profit organisation fully owned by the organisations it serves. We strive to set high standards in management, governance and strategy for ICSOs and the wider sector.
The Centre has entered a new strategic direction and is sharpening its profile as a convenor, innovator and platform for collaboration. We envision a stronger role in futures and innovation work and seek to develop new partnerships and supporters on the way forward – therefore, the fundraising ambitions have been raised and capacities are being strengthened.
Your Role
The Centre is currently looking for a Fundraising Officer (80-100%). You will work closely with the Senior Manager for Business Development to implement the Fundraising Strategy. This entails maintaining current streams of income, developing new income streams and promoting the value of the Centre’s work to donors and partners.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Work with the Senior Manager for Business Development to implement the Centre’s Fundraising Strategy and by that enable the Centre to secure its current project funding and build reserves for ambitious and innovative future projects
- Manage the donor pool, build on existing relationships with key funders (such as German and International Foundations or Governmental donors) and cultivate new relationships (for example private philanthropy or innovative business partners)
- Prepare and follow-up donor meetings and calls
- Research new funding opportunities with institutional donors and private philanthropy
- Research and monitor donor activities in key sector trends such as an inclusive implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, Digitization, Urbanisation or Shrinking Civic Space
- Develop appealing presentations, flyers or other project-related marketing material for fundraising purposes
- Support the development of tailored fundraising proposals and grant applications
- Prepare and participate at fundraising trips to European and international destinations
The Fundraising Officer reports to the Senior Manager for Business Development but will also work with other team members on a regular basis.
Requirements
- Work experience in fundraising and / or marketing, communications or sales
- Self-starter mentality and excellent communication and presentation skills
- Fluency in English; fluency in German is an asset
- Excellent organisational and coordination skills, ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Independent and proactive attitude, strong sense of ownership for assigned areas of responsibility
- Ability to work in a team and in a structured and independent manner;

- Working hours: 32 - 40 hours per week
- Holidays: 26 holidays p.a., on a pro-rata basis
- Salary: competitive NGO salary depending on qualification
