Senior Project Officer – Nature-Based Solutions in European Cities (f/m/d)

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support CDP’s work in a consortium-led Horizon 2020 project on nature-based solutions in European cities.

About the project: CDP Europe holds a grant from the European Commission’s H2020-EU.3.5.2. funding scheme “Protecting the environment, sustainably managing natural resources, water, biodiversity and ecosystems” awarded for the period 2020-2024. The project intends to deploy natural systems to enhance public health and well-being and create resilient urban ecosystems. CDP’s role in the consortium concentrates on capacity-building, replication, exploitation and dissemination activities at the interface of the project’s stakeholders and CDP’s wider network of cities participating into the environmental disclosure on its platform.
This project is centrally managed by the National Technical University of Athens and implemented by the CDP Europe Cities, States & Regions team, which works with around 140 cities and 40 regions measuring and disclosing environmental data each year to manage emissions, build resilience, protect themselves from climate impacts and create better places for people to live and work.

The role includes

  • Implementing the project activities in coordination with the Cities, States & Regions Senior Manager in Europe;
  • Delivering the project outputs and achieving outcomes as required by the project’s grant agreement;
  • Liaising with the consortium leader and partners and attend the project meetings and coordination calls;
  • Managing the project constraints (quality, time, scope, risks, benefits, costs) at task level, escalating issues upon needs and reporting on the progress;
  • Engaging directly with cities’ representatives as part of the capacity-building, replication, exploitation and dissemination activities, by making phone calls, sending personalized emails, in-person meetings, posting on social media, and other outreach modes;
  • Organizing in-person and online events for cities and other audiences;
  • Creating or adapting relevant project and engagement materials and content;
  • Analyzing and visualizing data;
  • Providing general research and administrative support as required;
  • Assisting with ad-hoc tasks as required.

The successful candidate should have

Minimum MA/MSc degree; ideally in Environment Science, Policy or Communication;

  • 1-3 years work experience, ideally in environmental research and/or communication;
  • Expertise in nature-based solutions in the context of urban planning and climate change policies;
  • Some knowledge of connected topics, such as spatial planning, parks and green spaces, air quality, health and well-being, biodiversity, citizens participation, etc.;
  • Some event management experience – online or in-person – is a strong advantage;
  • Affinity for data and/or for graphical visualization is a strong advantage;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal; ability to explain complex or challenging topics clearly and succinctly;
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills and ability to work with teams in a multi-national setting;
  • Ability to take the initiative, multi-task, prioritize and work under pressure;
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills;
  • Attention to detail with good research, writing and drafting skills;
  • Good public speaking skills and ability to interact with high-level representatives;
  • Enjoy working with people and organizations for a good purpose;
  • Willingness to travel across continental Europe occasionally;
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and experience with CRM systems;
  • Knowledge or practice of project management is an advantage;
  • Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written), other European languages are an advantage though not essential.

Further information

The successful candidate will work five days per week and must be able to work legally in Germany. This full-time role is based at our office in Berlin, Germany, and will work closely with and report to the Cities, States & Regions Program Senior Manager for Europe. The role is limited to 29 months with the aim of long-term cooperation.
