Accountable Now is an organisation that works globally to support civil society organisations (CSOs) to be transparent, responsive to stakeholders and focused on delivering impact. Our Members are internationally operating CSOs like Amnesty International, CIVICUS, CBM, Restless Development and Transparency International, who drive this agenda together with us.
The Accountable Now Secretariat welcomes applications from independent individuals to join the Board for a three-year term, with the possibility to extend for a second three-year term.
About the Role
The Board of Trustees play a key role in the stewardship of our mission and in ensuring Accountable Now complies with its governing documents and laws. The Chair and Trustees offer strategic guidance, expertise and advice to help ensure that the organization achieves the purpose for which it was set up. The Chair will also lead Accountable Now through an inclusive strategic rethinking process where Accountable Now will revisit its current model and theory of change. As Chair, you will bring strategic clarity to maximise the stewardship and effective use of our resources, ensuring that the Board is focused on fulfilling its strategic role rather than being drawn into more tactical issues. You will bring strong relational ability and emotional intelligence, enabling you to draw the best out of the Trustees as well as developing good rapport with the Executive Director and members. You will be an Ambassador for Accountable Now in the public arena, with the ability to effectively represent the membership and raise the profile of the issue of accountability amongst governments, opinion leaders, funders and a wide range of partners from across civil society. Based on the organisation’s needs and composition of the Board, Trustees have agreed to prioritise the following skills and qualities:
● Familiarity with the work of Accountable Now and personal commitment to Dynamic Accountability
● Senior, strategic-level experience and proven track record of achievement
● Credibility, significant experience of external representation ● Strong networking capabilities and an ability to foster a collaborative team environment
● Preference is given to candidates residing in a similar time zone to Accountable Now (CET +/-3)
The candidate must adhere to Accountable Now’s core values and principles which include but are not limited to being respectful to others, act with integrity, implement and promote the values and principles established in Accountable Now’s Articles of Association, Strategy and our 12 Accountability Commitments.
