Communications Officer (f/m/d)

E3G is looking for a Communications Officer, based in its Berlin Office to support the delivery of E3G’s mission and profile-building activities in the run up to the G7 and beyond.

E3G is a European think tank working globally to accelerate the transition to a climate-safe world. We build the broad-based coalitions needed to deliver change. We pride ourselves on bringing independence to an often-polarised discussion and holding policy makers to account on their promises. E3G is consistently ranked as one of the top-ten most influential environmental think tanks in the world by the University of Pennsylvania’s Global Go To Think Tank Index.

E3G Berlin is E3G´s major hub for work on Germany, Eastern Europe and partly covers the EU.

E3G is looking to expand its communications team in the run up to the G7 Leaders' summit in June.

We are looking for a friendly, driven, and skilled communicator to grow E3G’s impact and reach on German and EU policies and politics. The successful candidate will join a rich and dynamic team, working in close collaboration with wider E3G and the comms teams.

This role is offered on a 12-month contract basis with a view to further extension. 

Key Responsibilities

Media Relations

  • Establish and maintain good relationships with Germany-based journalists focusing on environmental and climate issues.
  • Experience in writing/compiling/distributing standard comms material.
  • Identify media opportunities, handle and coordinate press enquiries and position our staff.
  • Support the creation and distribution of press briefings and press releases in English and German.
  • Monitoring E3G Berlin´s media activity.

General

  • Support the development of a comms strategy.
  • Ensure communications excellence at E3G and across the Berlin team, bringing, consistency, and clarity to E3G outputs.
  • Involvement in the planning and organising of influencing strategies with a focus on Germany, Eastern Europe and the EU.
  • Coordinate E3G’s content delivery and dissemination around key moments in politics and policymaking, also in coordination with wider community of climate actors.
  • Experience in activating and coordinating colleagues from different teams/offices/venues around comms activities/major moments.

Comms outputs and coordination 

  • Ensure Berlin team outputs are listed in E3Gs communications calendar.
  • Support the production of blogs and reports, checking formatting and copy-editing as well as working with E3G staff to make writing sharper.
  • Regularly updating E3G website and SEO.
  • Monitoring E3G’s website activity.
  • Support the organisation and promotion of public events.
  • Managing social media activities.
  • Image and graphics management including formatting and sourcing.

Person description

  • You have some experience of using comms to influence German, Eastern European and EU climate policymaking, through media engagement and events.
  • You have excellent writing and editing skills and have a strong command of English, you are a fluent German speaker. 
  • You have a record of communicating complex topics in creative ways to various audiences.
  • A basic understanding of SEO, WordPress, Campaign Monitor and MuckRack would be helpful.
  • You are a positive, outgoing, and creative individual enthusiastic about E3G’s mission to deliver climate safety for all.
  • You have a couple of years of professional communications experience.
  • You have highly developed interpersonal skills and can work effectively as part of a team. You have sufficient confidence for copy editing and coaching a team in improving their writing style.
  • You are well-organised, practically-minded and proactive, with attention to detail and ability to prioritise a busy and varied workload.
  • You must have the right to work in Germany.

  • Salary €32,060 to € 40,965 dependent on experience.
  • Initial 12-month fixed-term contract (with possible extension).
  • Starting date as soon as possible.
