24 Month Programme – Fighting with The Poor
One World Center Denmark offers with the Fighting with The Poor, 24 month program unique opportunities to face some of the necessities of our times, with action and solidarity with the people of our world. Our programs contain the training of essential life skills, not only for development work in different parts of the world, but also for living a meaningful life in the 21st century.
- It is about ensuring the experiences you gain have a lasting impact on the people whose lives you touch.
- It is about creating peace and development between people by being honest, open and incorruptible.
- It is about deciding to learn new things, being constantly curious and interested in knowing the latest on current events, world politics and scientific progress.
- It is essentially about working on common ground together, helping to secure the ability of others to be productive in society. Coming together with many likeminded people can make the above a reality.

This is a program made in cooperation with One World University (OWU), Mozambique. Through this program, the student learns the trade of pedagogy through teaching both during the time at the school and the project. The people in our world are in need of teachers who have a high standard of ethics and practice and so, amongst other things, the training consists of the following modules:
- Methods and means of learning and teaching
- World History and the world of today
- Philosophy of education teacher training
- Man, nature and development
The student also learns the trade of fighting shoulder to shoulder with The Poor under 5 main themes:
- The Individual Poor
- The Group of Poor
- The Organization of the Poor
- The Future Organization of the Poor
- My Test Piece
The aim of the education is to combine action with theoretical and practical knowledge within the framework of understanding the role of teachers and realizing the existence of The Poor, understanding the basis of his plight, and raising the personal willingness, ability and readiness of the student to fight the good fight side by side with The Poor. This approach to study and to life as an educated person is new and is in many ways revolutionary as by training the student in the theories and practice of specific transformational processes in society, we point at and fully accept the responsibility of the educated person to be part of transforming that society.
We have chosen Humana People to People (HPP) as our main partner to practically influence the conditions of The Poor in the developing part of the world during the 2nd Period.
During this program, many of the volunteer positions in Denmark are focused on working together with small school students (students with social, behavioral or mental disabilities) at day schools and care homes in Denmark. This demands that you must show an ability to work together with such students. You must be ready to fit into existing structures at the institution you will be placed and take up the individual challenge to work with the team of teachers & social workers. You need to be ready to learn basic Danish. You are expected to be able to work individually and also as part of a team.
During the last 6 months in Denmark, alongside your volunteer work, you will form a TRIO (a group of 3 who work together) and build a cooperation to work together at the project. This 6 months period will be focused on gaining specific knowledge and skills about the project work.
In order to finally enroll for this program, you need Skype meetings with a Program Coordinator or to come to Denmark for a personal meeting at DRH Lindersvold, One World Center.
THE PROJECTS
One World Center Lindersvold and Juelsminde School Center work together with projects of Humana People to People in a wide range of developing countries during both Development Instructor Programs. Depending on availability, there are possibilities to work with the following projects:
- Teacher Training Colleges – focused on educating teachers for rural areas
- Vocational Schools for young people
- Community work to promote sanitation and hygiene in rural areas
- Community with special emphasis on farming
- Raising funds for social projects by forming partnerships and selling second hand clothes and shoes
- HIV & AIDS awareness and prevention
Volunteer work in Africa (or India) at the projects is based on the TRIOS building a co-operation and taking on necessary and significant tasks at the projects.
What We Expect From You
We do not have a long selection process for our participants who want to be volunteers in Denmark, Africa or India. We believe that anyone can become an activist, and that anyone can make a contribution to development, if they so choose. Before you enroll, we expect you to ask all the questions that are on your mind… all of them. Don’t think that any questions are stupid or that some are offensive and keep them to yourself for later – ask them.
If you want to talk to one or more participants before enrolment, you can do that.
It is our responsibility to pass on the information that we find important. It is your responsibility to make sure you get the information needed to make up your mind.
We are looking forward to hear from you. Volunteer in Africa!
* This training certifies you as a Development Instructor and awards you a certificate from One World Center.
