Project & Events Coordinator
in Full-Time
based in London

We seek an experienced project manager passionate about data science for social good. Applicants are required to hold the relevant UK Visas/Work Permits.

How it works:

  1. Charities approach us asking for help with a data project.
  2. We spend time understanding their pain points, how their organisation operates and how their data and other data sources can be used to transform their work.
  3. We design, organise and manage data science projects that lead to better decision-making in the charity and social sector, creating greater social impact.

Role Description

We are looking for a Project & Events Coordinator to manage our thriving community of data scientists and to coordinate our data-for-good projects. This role is an incredible opportunity to dive into the tech-for-good space. It comes with a lot of responsibility and room for growth. We are a small team made up of two full-time staff members, 15 core volunteers and an active board of trustees, plus a wider community of hundreds of data volunteers who work on projects and participate in events.

You must be able and willing to work evenings and weekends. This role requires working one evening every week and one weekend every month (you receive time off in lieu). The position is London based, with occasional travel within the UK.  

Key Responsibilities

Community Management

  • Manage the volunteer pipeline of new sign-ups and incoming enquiries.
  • Organise regular community events, such as meetups and socials.
  • Lead on communications with the volunteer community e.g. our newsletter.
  • Support the Community Committee in their activities interviewing and onboarding volunteers.

Coordinate DataDives & DataCorps Projects

  • Handle all event logistics related to DataDives weekends.
  • Project manage the volunteer teams to ensure all projects are delivered on-time and within scope.

Processes and Documentation

  • Record volunteer information and project details in our internal data systems.
  • Refine, document and automate processes for managing volunteers and projects.

Person Specification

Qualifications, knowledge and skills
Required:

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • Proficiency at organising large events of 50-100 people.
  • Experience of project management.
  • Understanding of and passion for how data can be used by non-profits to improve their work.
  • Knowledge of databases and data input.
  • Familiarity with either the tech sector or the non-profit sector.

Desirable:

  • Experience of managing a community or volunteers.
  • Experience of project managing tech or data projects.

  • Sociable: outgoing and friendly. You enjoy getting to know everyone in a room.
  • Organised: you like making lists and ticking things off.
  • Takes initiative: when you see something that needs doing, you dive in.
  • Passionate: interested in and excited about data for good and the opportunities it presents whilst understanding the nuances of when and where it can work well.
  • Ambitious: you are hungry to learn as much as you can and want to progress in your career in the data for good space.

Compensation details

  • Salary: £27,000-£30,000 per annum (pro rata), dependent on experience.
