Stories On Our Plate - SOOP is a social enterprise founded in May 2016.
SOOP introduces the public to home cooked food and stories from all over the world through a monthly supperclub series which supports SOOP’s culinary training support initiatives. Using food as a tool, SOOP provides a platform for cooks with refugee and migrant backgrounds who wish to launch a career in the food and catering industry.
SOOP’s culinary training initiatives places an emphasis on connecting participants with professionals in the industry - providing professional cookery skills, employability advice, and early food venture advice/training.
SOOP does not only tackle the obstacles that cooks with refugee and migrant backgrounds in the UK face carving a career path in the food and catering industry. SOOP also places considerable emphasis on how food can be a common denominator that brings us back to the basics of social interaction and understanding. We all have a food story to share. This year SOOP will be coordinating a series of interactive workshops across the UK that will champion the use of food as a means of cross-cultural dialogue. This project will conclude with SOOP’s first cookbook due to launch in October 2018.
