Make your community a healthier and better connected place

GoodGym is a growing community of runners who get fit by doing good. We shift earth instead of weights and run to visit older people instead of running still on treadmills.

We employ people who love running and care about their community to lead GoodGym in their local area. If you’re passionate about running and care about the world around you, we want you to be a GoodGym Trainer. You’ll be responsible for creating a community of runners and helping them improve their fitness.

We welcome applications from runners who are in full time employment. This role can be done outside of normal office hours.

GoodFym seeks a

Trainer to Lead GoodGym in Newcastle and Barnsley

Responsibilities

As a GoodGym trainer, you’ll be responsible for the success of GoodGym in your area. This includes:

  • Organising and running weekly group runs (examples here: www.goodgym.org/reports)
  • Developing the fitness of your members by sending out weekly emails
  • Creating a supportive community of members
  • Encouraging engagement by promoting GoodGym activities in your area

Person Specification

All applicants must have:

  • A passion for running: you’ll be running at least once a week.
  • The ability to confidently lead groups of runners
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good computer and social media skills

You would also need access to the internet and a computer so you can use the GoodGym website to list your runs and engage with your members.

Good to have:

  • A running coach (Coaching in Running Fitness) or personal training qualification
  • A leadership in running fitness qualification
  • Knowledge of local community initiatives and charities

Working Hours

You will lead one run a week on either a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evening. This will be from 18.30 - 21.00 (including time for setup and wrap up). Each run is written as a run report and this would take a further 45 minutes. This should be completed by 12 noon following the day of the run.

Outside of this run, you’ll be liaising with community organisations in your area, organising tasks, processing DBS checks of runners, managing a twitter account, as well as providing fitness advice via email to your runners. All of this can be completed in your own time.

We estimate this all to take between 8 - 10 hours each week, in total.

If you do not have a Leadership in Running Fitness Qualification, PT qualification or higher you must be prepared to undertake this immediately in order to accept the job. We can assist you in gaining this qualification.

Pay

£6,000 a year on a monthly freelance contract.

How to apply

Send a CV and cover letter to jobs@goodgym.org with the subject line “Trainer Application” and the name of the area you'd like to work in. Attending a GoodGym run is strongly encouraged (upcoming runs are listed at www.goodgym.org). Please demonstrate an understanding of what GoodGym does in your cover letter.

Interview dates and process

The deadline for all applications is Sunday 17th December

Applicants will be required to attend a sit down interview, complete a short online exercise and lead a practical fitness session. The fitness session will be a short run, without a GoodGym task. It'll be a chance to see you and the other candidates in a more practical way. You'll be asked to demonstrate a running drill. This drill should 10 minutes, but it's not about the length, rather a chance for you to show us your style.
