Fundraising and Communications Manager

Aston-Mansfield has been working in the heart of east London for over 130 years. We provide a wide range of community development support and activities in the London Borough of Newham, directly delivering services to around 1000 people and 900 organisations each year. Our two centres are open twelve hours a day, seven days a week, with some 2000 people participating in activities annually. Our services bring together people from diverse backgrounds to tackle poverty and deprivation and to enrich people’s lives. We aim to improve people’s lives: working with children, young people and families, whilst also developing community groups and the voluntary sector. You will be joining the charity as it embarks upon a new strategy to focus its work on supporting the lives of children, young people and families in east London.

Our Vision is to see more children young people and families in east London living happy, healthy lives where they are able to realise their potential and achieve their ambitions.

We are looking for a dynamic and creative candidate to oversee the direction and scope of fundraising within the Charity, working across all departments of the organisation and with responsibility for undertaking strategic Trust & Foundation, and Corporate fundraising, and working with the Volunteer Development Officer and Fundraising and Communications Officer to plan and deliver regular community fundraising /challenge events. They will also develop and grow the public image of the charity by producing and delivering a strategic communications strategy, maintaining engaging and relevant communications covering, social media, digital and print communications, as well as supporting the delivery of internal communications.They will join the charity as it implements its new strategic plan and will help embed a focus on children, young people and families in the charity’s work.

 

Fundraising and Communications Manager

£28,000 - £35,000 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance, 35 hours per week

Job Role

To oversee the direction and scope of fundraising within the Charity, working across all departments of the organisation and with responsibility for undertaking strategic Trust & Foundation, and Corporate fundraising, and working with the Volunteer Development Officer and Fundraising and Communications officer to plan and deliver regular community fundraising /challenge events.

To also develop and grow the public image of the charity by producing and delivering a strategic communications strategy, maintaining engaging and relevant communications covering, social media, digital and print communications, as well as supporting the delivery of internal communications.

To support the implementation of the charity’s new strategy and help embed a focus on children, young people and families in the charity’s work.

Key responsibilities and Outcomes:

Manage the Fundraising and Communications Officer, and work with them to achieve the strategic goals of the role.

Fundraising Responsibilities

  • Develop Aston-Mansfield’s fundraising strategy and plan, in line with it’s strategic objectives, working closely with managers to set fundraising priorities
  • Manage the research, writing and submission of funding bids in-line with Aston- Mansfield’s fundraising strategy
  • To increase the amount of fundraised income with a view to developing project sustainability
  • To support the development of Social Enterprise and trading related activities that may be developed
  • Plan and schedule Aston-Mansfield fundraising activities
  • To work with the Management Team to deliver fundraising events
  • Manage the facilitation of key partnerships and consortia with a view to fundraising in partnership to deliver collaborative work (inclusive of Newham Family Partnership, Newham ESOL Exchange, One Newham and any new consortia that are established)
  • Ensure monitoring and report writing is undertaken in an accurate and efficient fashion
  • To work with the Volunteer Development Officer to engage with Private Sector volunteers and donors
  • To develop and use appropriate marketing and communications materials and campaigns to maximise income potential and market reach
  • Produce bi-monthly reports on progress against the fundraising strategy and plan

Communications Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a communications strategy and plan in-line with Aston- Mansfields new strategic direction
  • Manage Aston-Mansfield’s social media presence across multiple channels; implement Aston-Mansfield’s social media campaigns and provide support to Aston-Mansfield staff on their use of social media
  • Identify and grow knowledge of key strategic audiences for increased effectiveness of Aston-Mansfield’s digital communications
  • Plan and oversee delivery of an online publishing schedule and create high quality and engaging written, visual and multimedia content for Aston-Mansfield’s website; working with the Fundraising and Communications Officer
  • Work closely with the management team and other relevant key personnel to generate ideas for stories, interviews and other online multimedia material;
  • Evaluate the success of communications activities
  • Produce bi-monthly reports on progress against the communications strategy and plan;
  • Work with Chief Executive and management team to produce Annual Reports and other strategic publications
  • Develop relationships with press and media contacts
  • Draft accurate and compelling copy for a variety of different audiences
  • Produce internal communications with the Fundraising and Communications Officer
  • Edit and proof communications produced by the Fundraising and Communications Officer and ensure all communications adhere to branding guidelines

It is required that the duties described are undertaken in accordance with Aston- Mansfield's operational policy with particular reference to Equal Opportunities, Data Protection, and Health&Safety. Person Specification

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • A degree (2:1 or above)         
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent team working skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Proven ability to successfully manage staff to achieve outcomes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong copywriting, copy-editing and proofing skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing with staff at all levels and to establish good working relationships with colleagues from a wide range of disciplines
  • Ability to develop sustainable relationships with a diverse range of community partners and stakeholder organisations
  • Good research skills, and the ability to find evidence and context to funding bids
  • Good inter-personal skills and ability to develop long-term and successful professional relationships
  • Creative and innovative approach to communications and fundraising
  • Proven ability to plan, prioritise and manage a demanding and varied workload
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience of working in geographical areas with diverse demographics and high levels of deprivation
  • Experience using Google Analytics and/or tracking communications activity
  • Experience of using GrantFinder (or similar prospect research tools)
  • Experience of successfully raising funding from Trusts and Foundations
  • Experience of working with Private Sector partners
  • Understanding of the fundraising climate as pertains to working with children, young people and families

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Working knowledge of In-Design / Photoshop or Similar
  • Working Knowledge of WordPress
  • Knowledge of content management systems
  • Experience of delivering Community Fundraising events
