Aston-Mansfield has been working in the heart of east London for over 130 years. We provide a wide range of community development support and activities in the London Borough of Newham, directly delivering services to around 1000 people and 900 organisations each year. Our two centres are open twelve hours a day, seven days a week, with some 2000 people participating in activities annually. Our services bring together people from diverse backgrounds to tackle poverty and deprivation and to enrich people’s lives. We aim to improve people’s lives: working with children, young people and families, whilst also developing community groups and the voluntary sector. You will be joining the charity as it embarks upon a new strategy to focus its work on supporting the lives of children, young people and families in east London.

Aston-Mansfield seeks a
Fundraising and Communications Officer
£23,000 - £26,000 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance, 35 hours per week
Job Role
To support the fundraising efforts of the charity, working across all departments of the organisation. To undertake Trust & Foundation, and Corporate fundraising, and working with the Volunteer Development Officer to plan and deliver regular community fundraising /challenge events. To also develop and grow the public image of the charity by maintaining engaging and relevant communications covering, social media, digital and print communications, as well as supporting the delivery of internal communications. To support the implementation of the charity’s new strategy and help embed a focus on children, young people and families in the charity’s work.
Key Responsibilities and Outcomes:
Fundraising Responsibilities
- To support the research, writing and submission of bids in-line with Aston-Mansfield’s fundraising strategy.
- To undertake prospect research to find appropriate fundraising opportunities
- To work with the Management Team to deliver fundraising events
- To support the facilitation of key partnerships and consortia with a view to fundraising in partnership to deliver collaborative work (inclusive of Newham Family Partnership, Newham ESOL Exchange, One Newham and any new consortia that are established)
- To undertake administration relating to secured funding such as writing required monitoring reports, and end of project reports.
- To work with the Volunteer Development Officer to deliver regular Corporate Volunteering opportunities
- To support the ongoing relationship management of key partners.
- To work closely with managers to set funding priorities.
- Support the approach to fundraising with appropriate marketing and communications materials and campaigns to maximise income potential and market reach.
Communications Responsibilities
- Maintain Aston-Mansfield’s social media presence across multiple channels; implement Aston-Mansfield’s social media campaigns and provide support to Aston-Mansfield staff on their use of social media;
- Coordinate an online publishing schedule and create high quality and engaging written, visual and multimedia content for Aston-Mansfield’s website;
- Work closely with the management team and other relevant key personnel to generate ideas for stories, interviews and other online multimedia material;
- Focus on audience satisfaction by implementing and running customer feedback mechanism;
- Work with Chief Executive and management team to produce regular Aston-Mansfield newsletters, Annual Impact Reports and other publications;
- Write press releases and proactively pitch stories to local media
- Draft accurate and compelling copy for a variety of different audiences.
- Produce and circulate monthly internal e-bulletin
- Organise internal staff/volunteer events, coordinating and supporting the management team

Person Specification
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- A degree of equivalent relevant experience
- Comprehensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Working knowledge of Wordpress
- Excellent team working skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong copywriting, copy-editing and proofing skills
- Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing with staff at all levels and to establish good working relationships with colleagues from a wide range of disciplines
- Ability to develop sustainable relationships with a diverse range of community partners and stakeholder organisations.
- Good research skills, and the ability to find evidence and context to funding bids
- Knowledge of content management systems
- Good inter-personal skills and ability to develop long-term and successful professional relationships
- Creative and innovative approach to communications and fundraising
- Proven ability to plan, prioritise and manage a demanding and varied workload
- Strong attention to detail
- Experience of undertaking trust and foundation fundraising
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Working knowledge of In-Design / Photoshop or similar
- Experience working in geographical areas with diverse demographics and high levels of deprivation
- Experience using Google Analytics and/or tracking communications activity
- Experience using GrantFinder (or similar prospect research tools)
- Experience of delivering community fundraising events
- Experience of working with private sector partners
- Understanding of the fundraising climate as it pertains to working with children, young people and families
