National Voices is the leading coalition of health and care charities in England. We work with our 160 member organisations, and with the wider health and care system, to push for services that are built around people’s needs. We do this by influencing policy, improving practice and acting as a voice for voluntary organisations. We are well-respected, influential, and have a reputation for punching above our weight.

National Voices seeks  a

Membership and Events Manager

  • Duration: Permanent
  • Hours: 35 hours per week (we are open to considering alternative hours and work patterns)
  • Salary: £35,000 per annum
  • Location:  London EC4
  • Annual leave: 25 days per annum
  • Reports to: Head of Communications

The role

The post holder is responsible for shaping and implementing National Voices’ membership strategy, ensuring high levels of member engagement in National Voices’ work, recruiting new members, and leading a varied and active programme of events. Fundamental to success is the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape National Voices’ future success, to develop their career by taking ownership of major projects, and to be at the forefront of pushing for improved health and care services.

Duties and responsibilities

Membership strategy

  • Shape and implement Membership strategy for National Voices.
  • Lead National Voices’ approach to ensuring member satisfaction and retention.
  • Devise and lead campaigns to recruit new members.
  • Maximise the involvement of members in National Voices’ work, making creative connections between the interests of members and the priorities and activities of National Voices.

Membership engagement

  • Implement mechanisms for National Voices to understand what matters to members, allowing them to shape our work.
  • Create opportunities for members to collaborate on common issues.
  • Lead the membership renewals process.
  • Gather feedback and manage tracking mechanism to give National Voices a clear picture of member engagement and sentiment, including leading on the annual members survey.
  • Report on membership development and engagement to the National Voices Board of Trustees.

Event management

  • Devise and deliver a programme of events ranging in size from 10 delegates to 250 delegates, currently including the ‘Meet the leader’ series, ‘Masterclass’ workshops, and National Voices Annual General Meeting.
  • Lead on all aspects of National Voices flagship annual conference.
  • Oversee the operation of member networks, including regular meetings
  • Deliver events as part of National Voices influencing and improvement projects.
  • Guide and oversee colleagues on the delivery of events.

Project management

  • Lead on areas of work that bring together members, including projects to influence policy or improve practice.
  • Take ownership of other National Voices projects and programmes as they arise.

Other duties

  • Represent National Voices at external events, including deputising for the Head of Communications .
  • Any other duties as required and commensurate with the role.

Person specification

Skills and abilities

  • Very strong project management skills with a highly organised approach to planning and prioritisation.
  • Excellent relationship management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make creative connections between the work of members and partners, and the priorities and activities of National Voices.
  • Proficient in the use of databases, Microsoft Excel, website content management systems, and social media.

  • Belief in National Voices mission, values and work.
  • Strong team player
  • Flexible, responsive and comfortable in a fast-changing environment.
  • Willing and confident to assert views and constructively challenge others.
  • A self-starter with drive, ambition and a creative approach.

  • Committed to ensuring equality and encouraging diversity.

Experience

  • A successful track record in a membership role or similar area of work.
  • Experience of recruiting members, or other relevant recruitment experience
  • Experience of planning and delivering events.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of current issues in health and social care (desirable).
  • Knowledge and experience of the voluntary and community sector (desirable).
