Green Schools Project is looking for a
Programme Manager
to drive us forward at an exciting stage of our growth. This is an opportunity for someone to be at the heart of a start-up social enterprise that is getting young people involved in protecting the environment and tackling climate change.
This is initially a 3 day a week role but has the potential to grow into a full-time position depending on performance over the first six months.
We believe that climate change is the greatest threat facing society, and schools need to play their part in educating young people about how to tackle it. Young people have the greatest stake in protecting our natural environment and should therefore be taught about it and given the opportunity to participate in its protection. With this opportunity, young people have the enthusiasm and energy to change behaviour in their communities and help to drive the transition to a more sustainable society.

We exist to help young people to get actively involved with environmental issues. We aim to support schools to provide opportunities for their students to learn about the simple steps that they can take to reduce their environmental impact. We do this by providing resources, visits and support to help them to run a student-led Eco-Team that tackles issues in a fun way that leads to other benefits for the students and school. An energy saving campaign will save the school money, walking to school will get students more active, and learning how to grow vegetables will help them to make choices that improve their health.
What you will do:
- Carry out visits to schools to deliver assemblies, help with projects and provide guidance on energy saving.
- Support schools with their projects to ensure the programme is run effectively with high quality outcomes.
- Create regular newsletters that showcase the outcomes of the programme.
- Manage university volunteers who visit schools weekly.
- Coordinate the impact measurement process of the programme.
- Recruit new schools. This will involve keeping up to date records, emailing and calling.
- Research corporate sponsorship opportunities and make initial contact with potential partners.
- Research grant funding opportunities and support making applications.
- Support the development of new resources and initiatives to improve the programme.
We need you to have:
- A passion for environmental issues and a commitment to helping to tackle climate change.
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience working in or with schools, working with young people and a strong belief in their potential.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to motivate and enthuse adults and young people.
- Strong organisational skills with an ability to prioritise while working on a variety of tasks.
- A growth mindset and a willingness to learn.
- A resilient attitude that sees setbacks as a chance to learn and thrives in challenging situations
It would be useful if you have:
- A clear understanding of how teachers work and how school decision-making works.
- Experience of and an enthusiasm for selling, communicating the benefits of the programme to schools, to potential sponsors and to grant funders.
- An ability to create engaging resources that are suitable for young people in schools
- Experience of managing volunteers.
- A full current DBS check, though we will arrange one if you don’t.

- £26,000 – £30,000 per year pro rata depending on experience.
