Community Coordinator
to support and network the Bootcamp community, from recruiting and selecting new participants for the Bootcamp residential programme to supporting the development of the alumni community.

- Pay: £23,450-£25,730 (Depending on experience and funding. Inclusive of London weighting)

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Community Coordinator is a member of the UK Bootcamps team, which is responsible for the successful production of Campaign Bootcamp’s residential training and its related activities, such as the annual community conference and the annual training for trainers. Your role will be to support and network the Bootcamp community, from recruiting and selecting new participants for the Bootcamp residential programme to supporting the development of the alumni community. You will also be responsible for sharing the stories of alumni (both for the residential and community-based programmes) with the general public. To do this work, you will work alongside our Programmes Coordinator and report to the Programme Manager.

ABOUT YOU
To thrive in this role you’ll need:
Communications/writing experience. Communication is central to this role, both internally and externally. We are seeking someone with very strong writing skills who can craft everything from blog posts, to publicity emails to social media text. You should be able to commission and edit others for our Community Newsletter. As a member of a team that produces our UK programmes, you should also be able to communicate effectively and supportively with other staff.
Understanding of how to use social media. You should have experience using social media as a tool for outreach and community building, as well as the ability to create simple but effective social media graphics and an understanding of how to use them strategically.
Public speaking skills. Your role will include talking about Bootcamp at events. You need to be someone who is comfortable speaking in front of a group, someone who is outgoing and persuasive.
Demonstrated interest in building community. Another key part of the role is helping us strengthen our alumni community. You will be be reaching out to alumni, helping them connect to each other, asking them to contribute work of Bootcamp and helping develop new programmes to support their ongoing development. You should be someone who cares about community building, who likes to support people to connect to each other and to grow.
Experience working within communities impacted by injustice. Bootcamp prioritises people coming from communities impacted by injustice, including low-income/working class people, people of colour, disabled people, migrants and LGBTQ+ people. We are seeking someone who has experience working within these communities either through campaigning or other types of work.
We expect you to be:
Aware of how systemic injustice operates in our society (things like economic inequality, racism and heterosexism). We are looking for someone who is excited to be part of team that is exploring how best to confront those issues both in the workplace and in the wider society.
A ‘people person’. This job is all about interacting with members of the Bootcamp community and beyond. We expect you to be someone who likes talking to people, someone with strong social skills, a good listener as well as a good communicator.
Able to work independently and as part of a team. We expect you both to be able to communicate and coordinate effectively with other members of your team and to independently manage your own work, developing and maintaining a work plan for yourself. You should able to work well under pressure, prioritise a varied and fast-paced workload and deliver to deadline.
Comfortable working in a small and expanding organisation, which means being flexible, adaptable and capable of responding positively to new challenges.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruiting participants for the residential Bootcamp programme
- Developing a plan and goals for each recruitment period, with a focus on people from communities most impacted by injustice
- Finding and recruiting Bootcamp graduates to feature in outreach efforts
- Writing outreach emails and developing social media materials
- Overseeing the execution of the outreach plan
- Getting staff and alumni involved with outreach
- Supporting applicants who need it to fill out the application
- Helping select participants for Bootcamp
- Helping participants prepare for Bootcamp
- Collecting evaluation data from participants
- Developing and maintaining work plans for the role’s recruitment responsibilities
- Additional tasks as assigned by manager
Communicating about the work of Bootcamp alumni within the community and to the general public
- Managing our social media channels and Facebook community group
- Writing and editing the monthly Community Newsletter
- Profiling Bootcamp grads and their work on the website, in social media and through other channels
- Speaking at events about Bootcamp
- Developing and maintaining work plans for the role’s communications responsibilities
- Additional tasks as assigned by the line manager or senior staff
Supporting the development of the Bootcamp alumni community
- To maintain positive and welcoming relationships with programme participants.
- Assist Programmes Manager with the development additional alumni programming
- To develop and maintain work plans for the role’s alumni responsibilities
