Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. In collaboration with more than 100 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.
Main function: Lead TI policy and advocacy engagement on the thematic priority political integrity, in close coordination with TI chapters and partners.

For the years 2019-2020, the TI movement has identified two thematic priorities which will drive its global advocacy. The area of corrupt money flows will focus primarily on the abuse of anonymous shell companies for corruption, and on the effective implementation of anti-money laundering policies. The area of political integrity will focus primarily on promoting transparency and accountability in political finance and lobbying. We are looking for a talented and outstanding individual to support the development of the latter priority.
Responsibilities:
- Support the development of the thematic area, its strategies, and its strategic planning
- Work with TI chapters, TI presence in the US and in the EU, and with other partners to develop and implement targeted, time-bound advocacy strategies that build on a) existing TI knowledge and tools and b) structured context analysis
- Represent TI and coordinate TI movement representation at relevant policy fora, public consultations and outreach events
- Liaise with TI national chapters on relevant policy and advocacy opportunities within the political integrity area of work
- Provide advice to regional colleagues on the development of longer-term advocacy strategies in country and regional programmes
- Analyse, interpret and act on complex information from varied and diverse sources for messaging and communication purposes
- Draft and edit evidence-based policy papers and submissions to relevant public consultations
- Draft messaging and communication products in coordination with communications department
- Liaise with journalists and represent TI in media
- Monitor resource development and partnership opportunities for the TI movement, and share and develop these with relevant TI national chapters
- Develop funding proposals
Knowledge, experience and skills:
- Masters’ degree or equivalent, preferably in law, political science, economics or another relevant field
- At least seven years of relevant paid work experience in the fields of anti-corruption or good governance; specific experience in advocating for transparency in lobbying and political finance an advantage
- Demonstrated capacity to build and maintain a strategic network of partners to further advocacy and policy goals
- Some project management experience and a track record of delivering advocacy projects on time and to budget
- Experience of working with EU institutions an advantage
- Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities and maintain a professional approach
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills essential
- Fluency in English required; fluency in other languages, in particular French and Spanish, an asset
- IT proficiency, especially with social media applications
- Entrepreneurial, creative and opportunity-driven mind-set
- Commitment to the values and goals of Transparency International
Other information about the post and the location:
This position is based in Berlin, in Transparency International Secretariat (TI-S). There is no possibility of remote working, or working from home outside Germany. Candidates are therefore strongly advised to consider whether they are able to relocate prior to applying. The successful candidate however will be expected to travel up to 50% of its full-time, and to spend some periods of time working from our office in Brussels.
