Full Stack Developer (m/f/d)
ArbeiterKind.de – Germany’s largest community of First Generation Students
Since 2008, ArbeiterKind.de has grown into Germany’s largest community for first-generation students and offers an extensive, accessible, peer-to peer counselling network: About 6,000 volunteers are engaged in 80 local groups and have personal face-to-face meetings with more than 30,000 school and university students annually. The volunteers are mostly students who themselves hail from non-academic families. As local peer-mentors, they encourage other talented youth through their own example. The volunteers offer information sessions in schools and universities, personal mentoring in regular open meetings, information booths and community events, as well as email and telephone counselling. ArbeiterKind.de offers support to all first-generation students in Germany, who subsequently are able to make better-informed decisions about their educational career, choose fields of study according to their own interests and gain the capacity to move more confidently and successfully as they complete their university degree and enter into academic professions.
We are currently looking to hire a full-time Full Stack Developer (m/f/d) to start immediately and join our team based in Berlin-Kreuzberg. You will be responsible for creating and developing a cross-platform mobile app supporting the online activities of our community. The employment is limited to 22 months with a possible extension.
Our project:
In order to digitally integrate volunteers better and quicker into the activities of ArbeiterKind.de, we want to develop the ArbeiterKind.de app. The goal is to give volunteers a better feeling that they are part of an active community and that they have all the knowledge for their volunteering at their fingertips.
- Volunteers shall receive requests for support from different channels on their smart phones, being able to reply quickly. (Push Notifications)
- A social newsfeed to show invitations to activities of local groups, trainings, news from the organisation and tips on best practices.
- Some functions of the app shall integrate the existing social network of ArbeiterKind.de through the offered REST API, e.g. user chat.
- A dummy of the envisioned app has been coded using Ionic.
About you:
- Work experience in mobile app development from start to finish, either on your own or in a small team
- Great communication skills and experience with requirements gathering
- Love for writing well-structured and well-documented code using modern techniques and frameworks
- Ability to work result-driven independently and to find creative solutions as well as to document and communicate the progress of the project
- Drive to take responsibility for the continuous development of the project in dialogue with the staff and volunteers of ArbeiterKind.de
- Interest in working for a non-profit organization and understand the situation of First Generation Students in Germany
- Fluency in German or English with at least a sound understanding of the German language to take part in team meetings and events

- 48.679,44€ annual salary plus end of year bonus in November (full-time, 40 working hours/week)
