Skateistan is looking for an HR Manager!

Skateistan is an award-winning international non-profit organization empowering children through skateboarding and education in Afghanistan, Cambodia and South Africa. The head office is in Berlin, Germany. Through our innovative programs which combine creative, arts-based education with the fun and freedom of skateboarding, Skateistan gives children the opportunity to become leaders for a better world. Our mission is to empower children through skateboarding and education. Our vision is to create leaders for a better world.

The HR Manager will improve and oversee, and create where necessary, Skateistan’s global HR frameworks and guidelines to be implemented and adapted at each Skateistan location. This role works closely with the directors and managers, and reports to the Deputy Executive Director. This role is ideal for an HR professional looking for a rewarding position with opportunities for future growth.

Key responsibilities

Policy and process

  • Improve the existing HR architecture (policies, benefits, recruitment, onboarding/exiting, reviews, staff development) for all Skateistan locations, and facilitate a process by which systems are kept up to date
  • Create global HR guidelines for all Skateistan locations, seeking input from different positions and locations as needed to ensure policies are locally relevant
  • Collaborate with directors and managers to create staff growth and retention plans 
  • Provide HR advice to directors and managers as needed, particularly with regards to performance management and employee concerns

Recruitment

  • Develop and maintain effective recruitment processes that can be implemented by various staff across the organization 
  • Create a process for talent and pipeline management 
  • Improve and oversee Skateistan’s onboarding and exiting processes
  • Support the organization’s efforts to improve diversity, equity and inclusion across the organization, specifically with regards to recruitment.

Staff engagement

  • Design and manage the staff engagement process such as annual staff surveys, bi-annual staff reviews and 360 degree feedback processes
  • Utilize the results of the engagement processes to develop policies and benefits to enhance staff engagements

Staff development

  • Develop a framework for staff training that can be used by managers across the organization to ensure staff training is up to date and relevant
  • Support the creation and distribution of internal and external staff development opportunities 
  • Support the organization’s effort in prioritizing staff mental health

    Skills required:

    Required experience and knowledge

    • 5+ years experience in Human Resources or People focused function
    • Significant international experience, with any experience in a Skateistan location advantageous
    • Solid knowledge of German labor laws 
    • Non-profit experience, preferably within an international development context, advantageous

    Competencies 

    • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity
    • Must thrive in a dynamic and fast moving work environment 
    • Motivated self-starter with an interest in organizational development
    • Must be flexible and willing to perform other duties beyond the role
    • Experience with G-Suite. Experience with Salesforce and People First (HRMS) is desirable
